MassMutual
Before designing the complete expansion and modernization of MassMutual’s employee cafeteria, Tecton’s design team coordinated with the cafeteria operator and several national vendors to create a full-service temporary commercial kitchen within four custom modular containers. Multiple dispersed swing-space eateries also were created before the fully functioning 45,000 sq ft cafeteria came on line.
The enormously successful result became a prototype applied and constructed at MassMutual’s 70,000 sq ft Enfield complex. Scale and quantity of the cafeteria projects allowed for integration of detail efficiencies, cost-effective custom products and substantial material-buying power.
Given the substantial growth MassMutual anticipated, the cafeterias were designed to evolve with use, since current patronage was quite low. Tecton incorporated dynamic serving and checkout stations, multifunctional, dividable space, and grouped tables, café seating and formal private room – offering a variety of dining experiences. The cafeteria design model has successfully accommodated an employee increase from 2,800 to 4,000.
