Competition in attracting the highest and best enrollment to Loomis Chaffee School, a leading institution in the ever-competitive private education market, led to its decision to reposition its science and math center. Together with outstanding science and math faculty and facilities staff, Tecton explored fresh ideas for the building envelope.
Within the constraints of existing campus buildings, Tecton’s solution combines Science Labs and Science Classrooms in the same flexible, dedicated space while grouping shared prep/support spaces. Resulting class scheduling efficiencies ultimately enabled function growth within the original footprint.
New multifunctional lobbies again connect Clark Science Center to campus quads and student circulation -- and provide additional marketing opportunities. The Entry Lobby offers a dichotomy of views: dynamic, highly efficient lighting technology emphasizes both Loomis Chaffee’s collection of fossilized dinosaur footprints, displayed in a glass-covered floor pit plus several active robots created by the Robotics Team, displayed in a “fishbowl.”
