Southbury Plaza
Putting a new face on the prominently located shopping center, near Southbury’s historic Main Street, combined traditional elements with a modern flair and identity for each of the six free-standing retail buildings on the 30+-year old commercial campus. But obtaining town approval for one of the largest retail developments in Southbury’s history was challenging: a series of public hearings and neighborhood meetings, plus close coordination with town administrators and staff brought an architectural continuity throughout the site and ultimately concluded with a successful design identity for the entire site.
Throughout construction, interest from prospective tenants steadily increased as the renovation progressed; and at construction completion, a majority of the center had been leased. The process of transforming the dilapidated retail site into a landmark for the design-astute community brought rising interest from potential tenants because of its architecture and site plan improvements as well as its location.
