Winthrop Wellness Pavilion
Working with a client whose unique talent for breathing new and unexpected life into old, unwanted buildings is exceptional, Tecton’s design team converted the 1960’s modern-style structure as an updated mixed-use facility with a traditional style appropriate to the context of its village location. Several complementary functions (health & fitness center, physical therapy, welcome center, pharmacy, restaurant and multiple medical offices) populate the Wellness Pavilion.
Creating a new escalator lobby, determining placement of several circular openings connecting the building’s lower level to the main public space, with glimpses into the fitness center below, and providing abundant natural light through a new circular skylight from the roof to the lower level were among the challenges creatively and successfully met. This project also provided the opportunity to collaborate with several professionals in developing the overall design for the complex mix of uses, and to design interior fitouts with various tenants.
