To create a consolidated Customer Service Center, Otis Elevator tasked the Tecton team with co-locating 100 customer call center employees with secure manufacturing and warehouse functions, for a comprehensive facility to support the needs of their legacy customers. With the initial task of accommodating the required density and juxtaposing public (open) and proprietary (closed) spaces, the design team looked to gain a deeper understanding of the project’s true potential. An exploration of traditional vs. progressive workplace models led to a layered concept – from open, flexible, and transparent, to semi-enclosed and assignable, to enclosed and opaque. The resulting design blends the history and technical background of the 165-year old Otis brand with the cutting-edge technology and forward thinking of a Fortune-500 company.
