From Library to Learning Commons

Renbrook School Library Learning Commons

West Hartford, Connecticut

Tecton is working with Renbrook School to reimagine the school’s existing library as a comprehensive Learning Commons. The existing facility is a well-used, well-placed building located at a crux between the upper and lower schools. However, the traditional layout and aesthetic do not provide the program flexibility required to support the PK-8 school. Tecton’s work is aimed at leveraging the best assets of the existing building to make it a more effective learning hub for the school. Through interactive visioning and “think tank” sessions with staff and students, the team illuminated a program that advances design thinking, celebrates reading and inquiry, creates space for display and innovation and connects students with nature. Tecton produced conceptual designs and graphics as an initial first step to support the school in fundraising for the project.
