Tecton provided full architectural services for the overhaul of Suffield Academy’s Memorial Building. The historic structure is one of SA’s original facilities, and currently serves as the primary academic building. Tecton’s design involved substantial demolition of the existing structure, while retaining the original 1854 east façade, in compliance with the Town Historic District. This façade was supplemented by 38,000 SF of new construction in order to meet current academic, environmental, structural and other requirements. The design of the space involved extensive discussions with Suffield Academy stakeholders, visits to similar schools, and discussions with the top 15 colleges and universities that Suffield students attend. The result is a flexible environment, with adaptable spaces, furniture and technology that support each faculty member and student.
