Creating a "Citizen Centered" Police Facility

Virginia Beach 4th Precinct Police Station

Virginia Beach, Virginia

As a police facility design consultant to RRMM Architects, Tecton provided programming, conceptual and schematic design for Virginia Beach’s new 4th Precinct Police Station & Incident Command Center. Our work also included support during design development and construction documents, with an eye on police operations, programmatic compliance, functionality and security. This station is designed for community connection, with architectural features that respond to the unique character of the neighborhood and an adjacent community park. The station features a welcoming area, interview rooms, admin offices, video magistrate services, conference rooms, muster room, gender-neutral locker/showers/restrooms, property and evidence, fitness room, and other support spaces. The LEED Silver equivalent building is designed to withstand major hurricanes and earthquakes, and includes geothermal HVAC, energy efficient LED lighting and low-VOC materials.
