Planning for 50 Years of Community Growth

Shrewsbury Police Station

Shrewsbury, Massachusetts

The Town of Shrewsbury has been steadily growing since the 1950s, with 25% population growth projected over the next 30 years. Faced with aging and undersized public buildings, the Town selected Tecton to develop a master plan for the Town’s municipal campus, a site that currently includes the Shrewsbury Town Hall, Police Station and Senior Center. As a result of the plan, the Town elected to move forward with design and construction of a new police facility as the first step in coordination with a replacement of the Town’s failing emergency communications system. The new police station is designed to be flexible and to allow for the next 50+ years of growth and change in both the community and culture of the department. The building allows for advanced training including IACP accredited instruction, defense tactics, fire arms training and de-escalation simulation, to prepare the department for 21st Century policing as they transition to a service-oriented police structure.
